A dream that has been years in the making, Safe Haven is Fairmount Christian Church's new Mental Health ministry, rolled out to coincide with Steel Magnolias, March 30, 31, and April 1, 2017. Our prayer is that people who are struggling will know that they are loved and cared for within the body of Christ.
Safe Haven will walk before we run. Having a medical doctor, a former psychiatric nurse, and trained counselors offers the team a wide range of experience and wisdom, as we enter this new ministry space. Our first offerings will be to communicate the way to get support from Fairmount's ministerial staff, to ensure the Fairmount family is aware that suggestions for professional counselors are available, and to train leaders within Fairmount to adequately minister to people struggling with mental issues and their families.
Safe Haven is a conduit. We help connect people to resources. In the future, our goal is to provide opportunities for speakers to share more information related to mental diagnoses, difficult life events and unfortunate outcomes that could trigger a mental health issue.
The charter members of the Safe Haven team are as follows: Chris Branch, Danielle Brightwell, Patricia Burkwall, M.D., Mariah Clary, Emily Hall, John Korusek, Michelle Korusek, Caity Liggon, Karen Smith-Will and Sandy Thomas.
