Jesus revolutionized the world for women by empowering us through faith to be courageous, strong, and loving. 1 Corinthians 16:13 (NIV) suggests to “[b]e on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” Being courageous and strong when battling your fears is not easy. Ephesians 6:16 encourages me to take up the shield of faith to extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one. My arrows are fears about finances, health and career.
For years I struggled in anguish inside when anyone asked me, “What do you do?” As a former U.S. Army officer and pharmaceutical sales representative, I can plainly state it was never my dream to answer that question with “I am a home school mom!” I could not imagine not having a career.
I could not see in our finances how we could possibly afford to home school. My fears were exacerbated by having two children with medical conditions requiring long term care. I did not think I had the courage or the strength to home school. I had no idea how much showing love is an integral part of home school—not just to my family but also to those who are unsupportive of our choice. Sharing with others about our home school journey has given me many opportunities to praise and glorify Jesus.
Learning to trust in the Lord with all my heart (Proverbs 3:5-8) has given me courage, strength, and love to share with others, as I confidently walk with Jesus on the path He has placed me on during this season of my life.
